Who is responsible
The operator of Sensorstorm is responsible for this app and this website and can be reached at sensorstorm@bognar.net.
What the app collects
Nothing. Sensorstorm sends no usage data, no identifiers and no measurements to us or to anyone else. The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDK and no tracking technology. Its privacy manifest accordingly declares no collected data and no tracking.
What stays on the device
Recordings, routes, photos, clips and settings live only in the app's own storage on your device. They leave it only when you export and share them yourself, for example through the Files app, AirDrop or Mail. From there, the policy of the destination applies.
- No account, no identifier, no analytics, no advertising SDK.
- Your device's iCloud Backup includes the app's data; that is Apple's service, not ours.
- At launch the app loads a list of further apps from apps.bognar.net; it sends nothing about you.
Permissions and what they are for
You can revoke every permission at any time in iOS Settings. The app keeps working with less; without location, for example, an observation can still be placed with the pin by hand.
- Motion and Fitness: recording acceleration, rotation rate, orientation, magnetic field and steps.
- Location: recording position, altitude, speed and course, aligning orientation to north and noting where an observation was captured. “Always” only so a recording keeps running while the screen is locked.
- Camera: recording video in sync with the measurements and photographing observations.
- Microphone: measuring loudness and recording the sound of recordings and clips. Frequency bands and sound classes are worked out on the device.
- Bluetooth: counting devices nearby, reading sensors such as heart-rate straps or thermometers, on request offering the phone itself as a sensor, and connecting a second iPhone.
- Local network and Wi-Fi information: finding devices on your own network, showing the Wi-Fi name and signal, and sending measurements to an address you enter.
- NFC: reading, writing, copying and erasing tags, as checkpoints and in the NFC tool. The content stays on the device.
- Nearby Interaction: measuring distance and direction to a second iPhone with ultra-wideband.
Where something does leave the device
These are the places where the app uses the network. Apart from maps, each runs only when you use it. Nothing comes from us, and nothing goes to us.
- Maps: the map views use Apple Maps. To load them, iOS asks Apple for the area shown, under Apple's privacy policy.
- Swiss maps: swisstopo maps and aerial images, including downloads for offline use, come straight from wmts.geo.admin.ch. The Swiss federal government learns the area shown and your IP address.
- Address lookup: off by default. If you switch it on, an observation's coordinate goes to api3.geo.admin.ch, outside Switzerland to Apple.
- Network tools: ping, traceroute, port checks and iperf3 send packets to targets you choose. Speed and network quality go by default to speed.cloudflare.com and 1.1.1.1 at Cloudflare; the public address is asked from Cloudflare only when you tap the button.
- Operator and country of a router (traceroute, can be switched off) and of the public address: a name query to origin.asn.cymru.com through your network's DNS server. Team Cymru runs that service.
- Time server: time.apple.com is asked only if you switch it on in the settings.
- Forwarding and live streaming: webhook, Open311, MQTT and live streaming send only to the address you enter, and only when you switch them on or tap send.
Purchases
Sensorstorm Pro uses Apple's in-app purchase. We learn neither your name nor how you pay; the app only asks whether the purchase is on your Apple Account. Refunds go through reportaproblem.apple.com.
This website
The website is static and sets no cookies. The host (Cloudflare) processes technical connection data when a page is requested.
Children
The app is not directed at children. It collects data from nobody, so not from children either.
Your rights
Since we store no data about you, there is nothing for us to show or delete. Delete the app and every recording is gone. Questions go to sensorstorm@bognar.net.
Legal basis
This app and this website are governed by the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the GDPR.
Changes
If anything changes, it appears here with a new date.
